In order to understand the context and dynamics that rule R&D and innovation in cyber security in Spain, INCIBE (in the framework of the Digital Ecosystem Confidence Plan derived from the Digital Agenda for Spain) has prompted the realization of the "feasibility study and design of a Network of Centers of Excellence in R&D in cybersecurity".

This summary report contains a summary of the methodology followed and the main findings, results and conclusions obtained after the execution of the study. It also includes an executive summary containing key findings in terms of positioning the R&D in cybersecurity ecosystem, and the challenges to set up the future Network of Centers of Excellence as well as the strategic elements that should guide its activity.

The potential and capacity of research, development and innovation in cyber security of a country is a key indicator that assesses the strength to fight against global cyberthreats. Similarly, cybersecurity is a global emerging market that moves, at present, more than 75 billion dollars per year and with an expected annual growth of further 8% in the present year (Gartner), therefore maintaining a strong capacity for innovation in this sector nationwide, provides leadership opportunities and international positioning.
