Several cybercriminals allegedly linked to Mekotio and Grandoreiro trojans were arrested
A cybercriminal group, made up of at least sixteen people, has been arrested and dismantled by Guardia Civil in Spain, accused of allegedly committing online fraud crimes through the use of malicious software, such as Mekotio and Grandoreiro banking trojans.
The software was installed on the computers using social engineering techniques, such as “email spoofing”, impersonating state bodies, such as La Agencia Tributaria, Hacienda, Correos o DGT, in order to steal money. The operation took place as a part of the AGUAS VIVAS police operation.
