International police operation against online fraud

International police operation coordinated by the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) of Europol and Eurojust, and led by Research and Technology Unit of the Police Headquarters of Catalonia of the Spanish National Police, the Italian Polizia di Stato, the Polish National Police and the British National Crime Agency, has led to the dismantling of a network of electronic fraud and the arrest of 49 people, ten of them in Catalonia.

The criminals used man-in-the-middle attacks medium and large European companies through malware and social engineering techniques. Once get access to corporate email accounts, criminals supervised the communications to detect payment requests, shifting those payments to bank accounts controlled by criminals. It is estimated that the total fraud is around six million euros.
