ICANN data compromised

12/17/2014
ICANN, nonprofit entity responsible for the coordination of maintenance and methodology of several databases of unique identifiers related to the namespaces of the Internet, has suffered a security breach and DNS zone database was compromised. Through spearphishing attack against ICANN would have been compromised the credentials of staff members of ICANN, including email and postal address. This information would have allowed an attacker to get access to all files in the Data Service Area Centralized (CZDS).

ICANN is investigating the incident and improving security measures.
