Facebook server outage
Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger services were disrupted by a global outage, affecting users in Europe, America and Asia in particular.
As Facebook explains in its official statement, during routine maintenance work, a command intended to assess the availability of the capacity of the global backbone (the network Facebook has built to connect its computing facilities) was executed, which unintentionally dropped all connections to its backbone, disconnecting Facebook's data centres worldwide.
The company has reported that services have been fully restored and clarified that they have no evidence that user data was compromised during the outage.
