British energy supplier, People's Energy, suffers a security gap
UK energy supplier, People's Energy, has notified an unauthorised third party access to its IT infrastructure, due to a security breach.
The incident was detected on 16th of December and it has affected a database that stored personal information, except financial information, of current and former customers. The information compromised includes: names, addresses, telephone numbers, mail addresses, dates of birth, tariff details and gas and electricity meter identification numbers.
The company took immediate action to fix the security breach and reported it to Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) and the ICO. The data breach has now been managed and fixed, but customers have been warned to be cautious of possible phishing attacks.
