‘Avalanche’ network dismantled in international operation
In an unprecedented global law enforcement operation, a four-year joint investigation between Europol, Eurojust, FBI and authorities in the U.K. and Germany has culminated with dismantling of “Avalanche”. Avanlanche is a distributed cloud-hosting network that has been rented out to criminals to mount phishing attacks, distribute malware, shuffle stolen money across borders, and even act as a botnet in denial of service attacks. Officials from agencies in 30 countries collaborated with private cybersecurity companies and academics. Finally, five people was arrested, 221 servers taken offline, another 37 seized, and more than 800,000 domains seized, blocked, or disrupted.
